Matthew assumed the role of Lead Pastor at Calvary Green Valley Ranch in January 2023, after serving as assistant pastor under the guidance of founding pastor Wally Kurcz.

Matthew, along with his bride Melissa and 4 children, first became part of the Calvary GVR fellowship in early 2020, having felt called to be part of a ministry closer to home in Green Valley Ranch. Initially, Matthew and Melissa were considering planting a new church in the area. However, after meeting and praying with the leadership God stirred a desire in Matthew’s heart to join in the good work that He is already doing through Calvary GVR.

Matthew feels called to teaching, discipling and pastoral care. He has served in a number of staff and lay leadership positions over the years: youth pastor, worship leader, discipleship group leader, men’s ministry, community outreach, and various small groups. He loves to encourage, teach and walk alongside fellow believers (in good times and bad) and takes every opportunity given to teach and preach God’s Word. This calling and passion is what led Matthew to go to school and get his degree in Pastoral Leadership from Trinity International in 2014.

Outside of his pastoral duties, Matthew loves: hanging out with family – hiking, swimming, fishing and camping; making music and singing; coaching his son’s little league baseball; playing golf (very poorly) with friends; watching, reading about and talking about all things Marvel and Star Wars; and grilling up good food.
